The Harriman Engine
Company (HECO) is a 100% volunteer fire department serving the Village of
Harriman and parts of the unincorporated Town of Monroe.
Harriman is located
approximately 45 miles NW of New York City at the junction of the New
York State Thruway and Route 17.
HECO was established in 1928
when the need arose for fire protection in the community.
We have been
proudly serving since! |
| Our
company handles the fire protection and also assists as first
responders for the community. Our First Due response area is a healthy
mix of residential and commercial areas. |
| We have several
large commercial areas that include: Walmart, Target, BJ’s, and Home
Depot, along with many restaurant establishments.
We also have an industrial area within our community that includes several manufacturing and wholesale distribution centers.
The
residential areas include single family, multi-family, condos,
town homes, religious institutions and educational facilities,
including several schools. |

HECO #1 is comprised of two distinct sides - the
Firematic side and the Civil side.
|
| The
Firematic side is headed by a Chief, two Assistant Chiefs, one Captain
and one Lieutenant who oversee all the firematic operations. Their
duties include responding to emergency incidents, training, and
leading the firefighters in the performance of their duties. |
The
Civil side is headed by the President, a Secretary,
a Treasurer, and three Trustees who perform the
company operations and provide fire service to the Village and Town. |
